Q.1.What is OPC Cement?
The full name of OPC is Ordinary Portland Cement which is cement made by grinding a mixture of powder of limestone, argillaceous, calcareous, gypsum, etc.
It is available in three types of markets such as:
OPC 33 grade
OPC 43 grade
OPC 53 grade.
It is used not only in India but in the whole world. It is most commonly used when a construction has to be completed fairly quickly.
2. What is PPC Cement?
The full name of PPC is Portland Pozzolana Cement. Which is made from natural and artificial goods. In this, silica is also present in reactive form. An appropriate amount of OPC clinker, gypsum and pozzolanic material, etc. are used in this cement. The Portland Pozzolana Cement is mainly formed by mixing of pozzolanic materials. In which fly ash, volcanic ash, calcined clay or silica smoke, etc. are found. All these materials are used for 15% to 35% of the total quantity of cement.
3.What is the difference between OPC and PPC cement ?
*For starters, the strength of OPC is better than PPC, but the strength of PPC is better for long term.
*High heat of hydrating is found in OPC and it is considered to be unfavorable for mass concreting. But the hydration process in PPC is slower than OPC due to which less heat of hydration is obtained and hence PPC is compatible with mass concreting.
*OPC is more expensive than PPC.
*OPC is found in three different grades such as: 33 Grade, 43 Grade, 53 Grade whereas any grade can be used in PPC.
*OPC is not good for bad environments while PPC handles bad environments.
PPC contains low amount of sulphate alkalis, chlorides, magnesia and does not contain limestone due to which it is compatible with concrete whereas OPC has sulphates, alkalies, chlorides, etc. which is not as good for concrete. .
